The “Varanasi Vimana!”

I started the Vimana series some 20 years ago. One of those ongoing things, thought processes that just kind of happens.

I had always been fascinated since reading about them in “The Morning of the Magicians” back in my late teens. I later found references to them in the Vedas, as well as the Vaimānika Śāstra (वैमानिक शास्त्र which probably was the source for the reportage in “The Morning of the Magicians”
Having seen something that resembled these visions when I was deep in the wilderness years ago left me with a sense of wonder and a questioning that has lasted throughout my life. So, I decided to transfer this mental activity all to art. The Vimana Series takes place across different ages and disparate places. Some are readily identifiable and then there’s others like the “Shrine of a Saint” which isn’t traditional in its portrayal.
I used to wonder if these were historically true descriptions of machines. Nowadays it doesn’t matter to me if they were or not, as sightings vehicles in the skies goes back to our earliest times and recorded histories. Something is going on whether it’s natural phenomena, visitors from another world, interdimensional beings, weather balloons, or hyperactive imaginations. It doesn’t matter whatever it is it does occur. (As an aside my father then in the US Air Force, in 1950 took part in a pursuit of one of these “crafts” over the Bering Sea. He stated that they got within a couple of miles of the phenomena and it disappeared off of their Radar Screen in under 10 seconds. Their radar was good out to 200 miles. Make of it what you will.)

This piece is placed in India as you can tell and of course the title. I wanted to take the series back to what originally generated this visual journey.

So, here is the latest in the series! I hope you like it; and would consider adding it to your art collection!

Big Love!
